Burlington Danes Holds Open Events for Primary Prospective Parents

While secondary school is rated outstanding by Ofsted inspectors

Burlington Danes Academy is holding two open events for Primary prospective parents on January 8 and 9.

They are:

January 8: A Primary Open Evening from 5.30-7pm, with headteacher's speech at 6.15pm.

January 9: Open Morning from 9.30-12.30.

The Shepherd's Bush school says: " We are delighted that Burlington Danes Primary Academy will welcome its first 30 reception pupils in September 2014. From September 2015 onwards it will admit 60 children each year.

" Our 10-acre site will be expanded to incorporate the new school for ages five to eleven. Our aim is to offer local children an outstanding primary education giving them the best possible start in life and ensuring that they have a smooth transition to secondary school at 11.

"The new school will benefit from being located beside the secondary academy - sharing some of its facilities - but will have its own separate buiding and outdoor space so that it will still have the intimacy and nurture of primary school - with a successful “big sister” school alongside it."

For further information, contact the school in Wood Lane by email at bda.school@burlingtondanes.org or call 0208 735 4950. You can also download the prospectus for the new primary here.

Burlington Danes Academy itself meanwhile has achieved an outstanding rating in all four categories from Osted inspectors.

"The mission to provide the very best education for every pupil within a caring and safe environment has become a reality in this outstanding academy," said the Ofsted report, published last month.

It went on: "Students’ behaviour is exemplary and they are courteous, polite and respectful to each other and staff. They enjoy being at the academy and are happy and feel very safe."

Under the new tightened Ofsted criteria, it is thought that only four to 5% of schools shall be awarded outstanding status.

Placed in special measures in 2006 and made the first ARK school the same year, Burlington Danes Academy has experienced a dramatic turnaround.

Principal Dame Sally Coates and senior vice principal Michael Ribton joined in 2008 and the school has been on an upward trajectory ever since.

Head teacher Sally Coates described the turnaround as "stunning".

She said: "It is such an achievement for the school and the ARK Schools’ network. I am so proud of my staff."
