White City Station in Line to Get Step Free Access

White City Station is one of ten on the London Underground network that could have step-free access possibly within three years.
Transport for London (TfL) announce plans to upgrade the stations to make them accessible based on feedback from accessibility campaigners and a consultation held on the issue in 2021. They were chosen to reduce journey times for people who need step-free access.
Over 5,000 people responded to the consultation and 63% said they believed the priority in deciding which stations should be made step free should be determined by there being a minimal number of accessible stations in the area the station is located.
The other stations on the list are Alperton, Arnos Grove, Burnt Oak, Eastcote, Finchley Road, Northolt, Rayners Lane, West Hampstead and North Acton will be reviewed.
TfL says it will now review the stations' "potential" and work to secure funding for the projects and hopes that the first of the projects could be complete by 2026.
More than a third of the 272 London Underground stations have lifts for step-free access and Sadiq Khan says he is committed to making the whole network accessible.
TfL said that the 10 stations were chosen based on feedback from accessibility campaigners and its 2021 consultation.
Andy Lord, London's transport commissioner, said, "We're working with partners to fund even more step-free access at Tube stations.
"These stations are a key part of these plans to create a more accessible public transport network that benefits everyone."
