Ant McPartlin Arrested After Mortlake Car Crash


Three-year-old girl taken to hospital after collision

Chiswick based TV presenter Ant McPartlin has been arrested after being involved in a collision in Mortlake this Sunday (18 March) afternoon.

The 42-year-old failed a breathalyser test and was taken to a south London police station for questioning. It is understood that he lost control of his black Mini and collided head on with a green Mini on the Lower Richmond Road near to the entrance to the former Stag Brewery. The other car was carrying a couple and their three year old daughter. The child was taken to hospital as a precaution and her mother suffered minor injuries. His car also hit a maroon BMW after the initial collision

Eye-witnesses say that Mr McPartlin was travelling with his mother, Christine Woodhall and his dog Hurley all of whom appeared to be unhurt.

The road was closed for much of the afternoon following the incident.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said, “Police in Richmond were called to Lower Richmond Road, SW14 at 3.59pm on Sunday, 18 March following reports of a road traffic collision involving three vehicles.

“Officers, London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade attended.

“A number of individuals were treated at the scene for minor injuries only. A child passenger from one of the cars has been taken to hospital for a check-up as a precaution.

“A 42-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink-driving after failing a roadside breathalyser test.

“He has been taken to a south London police station for questioning.

Mr McPartlin has only recently returned to broadcasting after a spell in rehab which he entered after becoming addicted to painkillers which he started taking after complications following knee surgery. He is currently in the process of divorcing his wife Lisa Armstrong after 11 years of marriage.
