Morrisons W12 to close

I've just read that Morrisons plan to close this store, which will be a terrible blow to the community. I've been a very regular customer there since it opened in 2005, and was a frequent shopper at its predecessor Safeway.This closure would be such a blow to the W12 Centre and to all the locals who have used it for all these years. I don't know what their turnover is but it looks like a pretty busy store to me. plus, they've recently invested in new self-services tills. Many staff have been there since the Safeway days.This is another blow to the old Shepherd's Bush. I hope Morrisons will rethink and endeavour to remain where they are.

How come it will remain a food store? I was there tonight. Such a sad sight with the stock all gone and workmen removing the cash machines. Clearly, Morrisons weren't particularly upfront about the closure, as there were numerous people showing up to do their shopping only to be confronted by the status quo. I still can't understand how Morrisons were losing money - the store was always busy, especially week nights and weekends. And the fact it had a well-subscribed pharmacy, dry cleansers - and even a postbox - showed that it was very much part of the community and will be sorely missed by many.

Thanks for link Carol.So Morrisons will close this sunday 27th November but stay a food store of some sort.

Many of the locals don't even wish to go to Westfield for food shopping!  Its a choir just to get through the crowds of people to Waitrose and back!  My parents are elderly and will now have to shop online at 82 years old!!  And to top it all, Morrisons can't even provide an accurate date for closure!!!!!  Does anyone have a real time update as there is no annoucement from Morrison online

Saw some interesting beds in the furniture outlet store! Believe it opens Saturday. And I visited the Age UK shop yesterday, although smaller very well laid out, somebody has put some real thought into it, loved the music area in its own little room.

Anything but Tescos. And definitely not Sainsburys. It would be a shame to see Morrisons go. I believe it's likely down to poor management and increased rents. Westfield and W12 Precinct are two different entities that cater to particular desires and purposes, and the owners of W12 should try to develop the centre better than they have done in recent years. (Incidentally, there's now zero entrance charge to the loos, which 20p - the sane since opening in 2007.)

There's always been a supermarket in the precinct - Safeway, Prestos and some other name before that. So, there's always been need for one there.Another furniture outlet is due to open soon, in place of the charity shop. Some of the items are particularly garish, but items look OK. I'm sure there'll be buyers. Age UK have moved to a smaller space (their third in the are in 4.5 years), next to the Bush Doctors.

Morrisons are not necessarily closing in Brentford. The site they are on is being redeveloped but there will be a similar sized supermarket in the new development. Morrisons lease runs out in 2018 but presumably they have some sort of option on the new premises.The two sites are very different. The W12 shopping centre is dying due to Westfield and, given that it is not really that easy for many people to park and shop there.The Brentford one has lots of new developments around it and it would be surprising if Morrisons didn't at least attempt to get a new lease on the site. I think Aldi/Lidl would generally be looking to get sites with low rents and I don't think this would be one.

I just used the name as an example of another supermarket taking over the shop.  And walking through the precinct lunchtime I noticed the furniture shop looks like it is going to reopen

Morrisons in both Acton and Brentford are also closing, which makes me hope that either Lidl or Aldi will step in briskly and take over one or both, NOT please Tescos, which would surely be the least desirable alternative (I'd actually prefer a decent Co-Op to Tescos).

Wondering if there are other plans for this shopping precinct.  I notice the very large charity furniture shop has also closed down.

It always gave the impression of being very busy so it was a surprise to hear it is closing. That may just be a reflection of the poor layout of the store.Thinking about why I have shopped there less in recent years the conclusion is that the increased cost and difficulty of parking has made it a less attractive option. Also, like a lot of people we shop smaller and more often meaning that stores like Sainsbury's Local get more of our trade.It may be that because of changing shopping trends and the poor location of the site that a supermarket is no longer viable there.

I too was very surprised to read this as other than Waitrose it is the only supermarket in W12, I believe.  However I think I read somewhere that the Morrisons in Brentford may also be closing.  Lets hope if it does close another name will take it over, Tesco's??????
