The Olivier Awards
Lucky members of Kensington Singers sang with Gary Barlow and the cast of the Girls at the Olivier Awards, to be broadcast this Tuesday April 11th on ITV.Members of Earls Court-based Kensington Singers were given an amazing opportunity to perform with Gary Barlow and the cast of his musical “The Girls” at the Royal Albert Hall for the opening of the 2017 Olivier Awards. Gary and co-writer Tim Firth were nominated for three awards. Hannah Brine, founder and leader of Victoria Park Singers said “It was again a real privilege for us to be performing with Gary and Tim. Many of us were involved in the 2016 Royal Variety Performance with them and it was a real highlight of the year. At the Oliviers we performed “Yorkshire” - a wonderful song about the customs of the north, with lyrics depicting the countryside and english traditions such as eating fish and chips. Its really moving and evocative. Thanks so much to Gary and Tim and everyone for inviting us!”The choir was then able to watch the ceremony which also included performances from Amber Riley (Dream Girls) and the cast of School of Rock and Jesus Christ Super Star. Kensington Singers new term starts on Monday 24th April and new singers are always welcome. Anyone who is interested in joining the choir should visit www.kensingtonsingers for more information and to sign up
