Jolly trolleys
Get those shopping trolleys at the ready. Volunteers from the local food banks will be out in force this weekend at Waitrose, Westfield. They hope to persuade you to donate food for a cause which needs all the help it can get as the cost of living crisis continues to bite and the numbers of people in need of supplies stays high.
People are so generous. A collection recently for the Hammersmith and Fulham food banks at a QPR home game raised almost £750 and in Sainsburys, Fulham, 2.5 tonnes of food was donated. That’s a tremendous effort for which hundreds of people are grateful. One individual gave £500, another handed over his Nectar card and said: spend £200-worth!
We can’t expect that every week! But it would be great if shoppers in Westfield dropped one or two items in the collecting boxes. What we are short of is tinned meat, especially corned beef, coffee (small jars), shower gel, sweet corn (a favourite), jams and biscuits. Washing up liquid would be great.
Stuff that most of us take for granted.
See you there. Help fill those empty food bank shelves
