Dogs mess...and bike rider's!

Has anybody ever seen anybody issued with a penalty notice for allowing their dog's to mess on the pavement and not clear it up!! It is shocking the amount (certain days) that is littered all over the pavement. Also, bike rider's still continue to ride where they like even chatting on the mobile phone whilst on the pavement forcing you to make way! They have scant regard for others! I saw a few being pulled over ages ago for riding on the footpath but not a thing since!

Yes fagmazing definitely a new one - was having deletion problems. I am all three also but have to use my senses most acutely on the bike because people using the other two methods of transport don't seem to realise they need all five. Then there was the sad story of cyclist on ipod getting killed in the papers this morning.Maybe it's just that multi-tasking while getting round London is too difficult to do safely.

not sure what "fagmazing" is but anyway , we're not different species, we're all pedestrians, and some of us bike and drive, i do all 3. You cant expect people to walk round like paratroopers ready to dive out the way. None of us are ever that much in a hurry that 20 seconds later will make a difference so bikes need to brake and cars/vans etc, well they need to realise they can kill, they take up the most room, they make the most noise and pollution so they should, ny rights, be the humblest people on the road.

The combination of any two - while walking anywhere in London - of ipod/texting on blackberry/speaking on phone/small child/ any size dog/buggy/snogging/hamburger or other comestible/fag seems to lead to truly idiotic behaviour by pedestrians. fagmazing more aren't knocked down - or knock each other down for that matter.

pedestrians walk out on me all the time whilst i ride on the road. should they get fixed notices? no course not. smile, apologise and get some perspective.agree with you about dog mess though. make em lick it up i say ;)

Yes, unfortunately there are some selfish cyclists and they, specifically, shouldn't be allowed on the pavements. But the vast majority of cyclists just want to get from A to B without getting hit by a truck on the way. By far the safest way would be to carve out a slice of the pavement for them. As Sara rightly says, there are plenty of places where the pavement is more than wide enough.

That's a daft, selfish and, as you say, illegal thing to do. But it is perfectly possible, with a little sense and consideration, to share the same space - there are cycle/pedestrian paths for instance in Hyde Park and along the South Bank and people don't get mown down there.

Well yes..... point taken but we are in england where it is not allowed!! I guess my gripe is aimed at the cyclist who think the walking public should make way for them! The type who rush past you and almost take you out in doing so!!

And a cyclist is far far more likely to be seriously injured or killed by a motor vehicle than a pedestrian is by a cyclist.Loads of pavements - eg Notting Hill, Kew Bridge area - are wide and almost unused by pedestrians but no provision at all is made for bikes.

Keith, I don't think it's really a safety issue. It's perfectly legal to cycle on the pavement in some countries (Japan, for example) and everybody does it. I've never quite understood why people are so anti-cyclist here. You're far more likely to be hit by a car than a bike!

I am sorry that is no reason to put the general public at risk!! Two wrong's do not make a right! It is amazing that you see grown adults as well as youths riding on the footpath! They should at least know better?

Perhaps if the cycle lanes were improved and if people didn't park in them then the cyclists wouldn't need the pavements?
