hammersmith school closure

does anyone have any backround knowledge as to the demise and subsequent re-invention of the phoenix school I went to this school cice 1954 when it was brand new and called christopher wren and a good school it was with every facility,i did read that it went through some turbulent times in the seventies

I did read on the net regarding the teachers union having some difficults with the headteacher and the education authority, they raised concerns about teachers safety

yes, i was teaching in Christopher Wren when the head got stabbed in Hammersmith County. Later on both girls and boys schools were amalgamated into one, called Hammersmith School which subsequently became Phoenix. It doesn't seem to have changed much since the early 70s, when there was a teacher shortage and the 3day week. Christopher Wren did offer a lot of building craft study, brickwork, plasterwork etc..

I went to Hammersmith County, left in 1977, which at that time only had the 6th form joined with Christopher Wren, now of course neither schools exist as they became Phoenix.From what I remember there were one or two incidents, vaguely remember our deputy head teacher, think her name was Miss Jenkins, being stabbed!
