Anti-social Behaviour Crackdown

I am,unlike the (quoted)two fellow residents of Tunis Road, all in favour of the 'dispersal zone' around the Uxbridge Rd & surrounding streets, that came into force yesterday.I am sick & tired of noisey yobs making a nuisance of themselves at all hours of the late evening & night.........often drunk Eastern European guys & assorted teenage gangs. It makes either going out or coming home at night, pretty scarey if you are alone.It's just a shame that the behaviour of these selfish individuals has warranted these new measures.

But why, Sara? I don't want to sound too nimby-ish about this, but shouldn't hostels be evenly spread out across London? Why so many in this area? It's all very well building a nice new shopping centre and doing up the green but I'm not sure any of it's going to do any good in terms of the area shedding its high crime/drugs/drunks reputation.

But there have always been loads of hostels in the area - possibly why it has never tipped over from up-and- coming to up and came. My mum lived in one when she was at London University in the fifties!

I'm in two minds about this one. As long as the powers are used wisely, I have no objections, but I do worry about where this is leading. Hopefully a "crackdown" for a relatively short period of time will sort out the worst of it. But relocating some of the hostels in this area - because there do seem to be quite a lot of them - might have more of a long-term effect.
