Shepherds Bush Post Office......vent!

I have just stood for 5 minutes at the lottery counter, the position next to this one was in use so the counter attendent could see me standing there as she had looked at me a number of times.......she eventually tells me the person is at lunch!  I politely said there should be a note on the window stating this but I am at a loss as to why she could not tell me that when she first saw me standing there..........aaaagggghhhhh!

Thanks for the suggestion, Sara. I suspect it will be a while before I get my money back anyway, so I've got plenty of time to look into the various options.

How about NS & I - not sure you have to go in at all to deposit - though I did for ages with the child benefit. There's an OK post office on the Uxbridge road but maybe a bit close to Acton to be convenient.

After my bank collapsed this week, I am now thinking about opening a Post Office account, but the prospect of standing in a queue for hours just to deposit a cheque is extremely off-putting! Does anyone have any experience of PO acccounts or know of a nearby post office that has reasonably decent service? I just can't face that one on the green. Makes me lose the will to live.

I just can't understand why they've removed the most useful parts of Shepherd's Bush PO. You used to be able to buy stamps reasonably quickly at the side counter or from the stamp machine. Now both have gone. They ought to be installing a whole wall of stamp machines, not removing them.

I am never rude to the staff - just ask them formally and clearly where the staff are, why it's taking so long and if the manager is aware of the length of the queue.I don't understand why consumers allow themselves to be so put-upon.And then they play idiotic videos flogging their additional "services" and I always want to scream(but never do, you will be glad to hear, Carol) "Why would I take broadband or anything else from an organisation that can't do its core job properly and doesn't give a toss about customer service?" I think those screens are counter-productive anyhow.

It also states at the counters that the staff should be able to do their jobs without people being rude to them.  Well this goes both ways, after all they are providing a service, and as a customer I think we also deserve a certain amount politeness.I am actually only referring to the Shephers Bush branch, I have on occassion used the one in Shepherds Bush Road and have no complaints about the service from there.

There was a report out in the papers this morning which said the average -AVERAGE- wait at a Post Office was now 28 minutes. It's an outrageous monopoly. This morning I went to the one in Albemarle Street - 9 desks, only two of them manned with anyone actually serving the public...one faffing around and doing lottery cr*p. And when you complain loudly and bitterly,  they treat you as an ungrateful moron. It makes me so cross.

Hello Carol. I guess with the credit crunch well upon us the PO like everyone else will find customers hard to find when it comes to financial advice. Hope you liked my poetic reply by the way, not very good really, I must do better.

Agree with you entirely, Carol. It's completely useless. Maybe they're trying to deliberately run it into the ground so that people will stop using it. Then they can close it down and justify it by saying that there weren't enough customers!

I thought we were meant to be supporting the Post Office to prevent any further closures but I am sorry if this is the customer service we are to receive then I will not be using it.  Also the one in Shepherds Bush used to sell various items of stationery, this has now been removed to be replaced by a desk and a chair to advise on financial matters, looks like it will never be used and a ridiculous waste of space.

Only 5 minutes, Carol? I tried to buy a stamp in there the other day. Machine inside has disappeared, machine outside (you guessed it) doesn't work. I was directed to the lottery queue as a kind of fast track. Ha ha! After a 20 minute wait, I gave up. Maybe I should start queuing now for my Christmas stamps.....??
