Solar powered car

Would it be possible to have such a thing?  If all of the exterior was made from the sort of material that stores solar energy, and during the day if it was parked out in the open it would be being "charged", then at night it could run off the power it had stored.Or is this a totally stupid idea??????

Its a Nissan Nuvu Carol. You charge it up from the Mains, but it also has a Solar roof panel which whilst not being able to charge the battery on its own, does help to extend the range. Available in 2010 they say, we shall see.

Well this one at the Paris show looks like a proper car. However there are some that look like Noddies, Bamber Gascoign had one for trolling round Richmond in.

Works OK in the Australian Deserts Carol. There was one that has achieved the World Speed record for such a device in that environment.If you want a nice electric Runabout, there was a prototype exhibited at the Paris Motor Show powered by Lithnium Batteries. 80miles range, 3 hours to charge £17000, but that would probably come down quite a bit.Cruises at 60mph, like driving a Trolleybus I should think, and they used to accelerate round The Bush Green like crazy.

I'm sure I saw one advertised recently - a Japanese invention. Would probably be quite useful in Spain, or somewhere where the sun actually shines but I can't see that it would be much good over here.
