Fireworks.....should the sale to individuals be banned?

Am I the only one who thinks they should?  OK an organised display is acceptable but already the delightful little scamps in my flats are having great fun throwing lighted ones from the balconys, scaring the proverbial from anybody walking past!  (Not to mention the fear it is putting in the dogs they have with them).  I have even seen them holding the blasted (no pun intended) things whilst they go off.......and then no doubt the parents would be bemoaning the fact their delightful child has been seriously injured!

Well yes Lina, such incidents are totally unacceptable. As you had mentioned 40, I was thinking more of those individuals nearer to that age, who by that time should know better, but very often don't!

Personal insult??!! I make the comment after having had to run for cover outside the central line tube station in Shepherds Bush when a teenager set of a firecracker. Teenagers and firecrackers just shouldn't mix.

Good thing you didn't post that on W4 Lina, even if it was said 'Tongue in Cheek'.There are Anarchist Adherants to the Modern order of Social attitudes over there who would take that statement as a personal insult!!!!

I think they should be banned for anybody under the age of about 40.

If an age requirement is not policed or adhered to then a ban of sale to private individuals is unlikely to be either. Serious incidents with fireworks were commonplace when I was younger and as I hear less about them now I presume safety has improved significantly. We're probably at a point where not enough people are being seriously maimed for the government to take action.

There certainly is an age requirement - though am not sure whether it is 16 or 18 - maybe it should be 35. And anyhow, like alcohol, it's not policed nor adhered to.

I presume there is an age restriction on who can be sold fireworks?  If there is and shopkeepers are found to be selling to underage kids then they should be fined.  However round my way they seem to be teenagers that are doing it.  To me the only solution would be to only have organised firework events.

I can't understand why they're setting off fireworks already. It's not even November yet. I don't think an evening goes by now without the sound of fireworks popping in the background and it is rather worrying to think about who might be setting them off...

Yes Carol.I think that what should be taken into account is the deteriation of Public order, which mean that an irresponsible minority has access , quite easily to a leathal means of injuring people who are mearly minding their own business.
