Mosque on the Bush?

Strange goings on on the Green ... which hopefully will result in that embarassing decrepit old pavillion building being turned into a shiny new Mosque if my reading of whats going on are correct! More in hope that anything else!Pics here http://shepherdsbush.wordpress.com/Chris

Lina, The O2 Empire will be a showcase for local musictalent and it would be great if this was a showcase for local photographic, painting and visual arts talent with a coffee bar and maybe a gift shop with prints for sale as well. Some of the proceeds could go to help local charities.

I doubt it will ever become a Mosque (what with our conservative council). It was originally built as a cinema. I watched E.T. there in the eighties when it was a cinema. As far as I know its a listed building and can only be re-developed for the purpose it was built (as a Cinema). Fat chance that will happen as we already have 2 multiplexes in Shepherds Bush. However I think that it would make a good art house / alternative cinema but would probably not be a commercial success. As it stands it is currently leased out from time to time to anyone that wants to use it. It is very run down so there are not many people that do.

I entirely agree with you Kim but it looks like a very big building to me so presumably you could fit more in there than just an art gallery. Such a shame to leave the building in such a state for so long.

Although I have the greatest respect for all religions I believe this space should be of use to all the community of Shepherds Bush as well as a cultural icon. eg art gallery and photographic and historical gallery of West London, with coffee bar.

Hi all, I had 'heard' that the building had been purchased by the Hilton Group, but I do not know if there is any truth in that, it did come from an estate agent I would never use again!!

I do agree with you about the frontage of this building though, it really is run down.  And like you I would love to know what the writing says.........to me it looks more like a picture but I guess some script is like that.

well we have one but someone I know who uses it says its really small and only really used by Somalis so there is a need for another oneAnd anyway there are lots of sects just like christians so always demand!youre probably right though

Those flags have gone up before, I thought the buidling was used to hold events so assumed when I walked past it this morning that something was happening in there at the weekend.  And anyway do we not already have a mosgue down Uxbridge Road?
