Should I have done anything else?

This morning on my way to work via Hammersmith Park, there was a little girl with her parent/guardian, she was crying, he was bending down to her and as I walked past I heard her saying her hand hurt.  The man was holding her scooter and appeared frustrated at her crying.  I carried on walking and when a bit further away turned round, the man saw me do this and I heard him shout "What are you looking at".............which I presumed was directed at me and which I ignored.  Up to that point I was not overly concerned, although something made me look back at them, but the fact that he shouted at me has been niggling at me all day.............should I have said something?

Thank you ladies.  You are right, I did not see anything untoward, it was just the fact that when I did look back he made the comment to me.......just me and my suspicious mind!

I suppose you could have said "I noticed the baby was crying, can I help i've got X of my own" but I don't suppose it would have been a successful intervention and it is difficult not to look a nosy parker - when there is no actual evidence. I hear mothers scream at their kids often and want to say "hey!" but don't.(probably rightly)

That's a hard one, Carol. I suppose if you had seen him hit her you ought to have said something but judging by what you say he wasn't actually doing anything identifyably wrong. What could you have said to him anyway?
