The End of 'Murder Dem Pussies'?

The coverage of the murder of an innocent Somali man by the West London gang Murder Dem Pussies provides a deeply unsettling read. Although any such event is tragic the slaying of a man who came here to get away from civil war, worked hard to get into university whilst caring for a mother striken with MS is particularly hard to take.That the group responsible was also linked to the death of an innocent young man here in Hammersmith makes the news of these sentences very welcome. I know this group were responsible for a substantial amount of much less serious crime throughout the West London area.What will be interesting from this point is to see if the jailing of these people brings about a bid reduction in crime locally and an end to gang culture or if these youths are just the tip of the iceberg in terms of social problems and more crimes like this will happen just as regularly as before.

I think you are right. There was clearly an adjustment period when free travel for students was introduced and youths used to just walk onto buses but now drivers are making them swipe in. I was considering giving up bus travel all together until it started to improve.I'm not sure the gang has been broken though. There was apparently a group of them hanging around the court 'in support' while the sentences were handed out.

My own feeling is that local crime, particularly that on buses such as the 207 dropped significantly once this gang was taken off the streets. There is also an element of the police responding to complaints by the public and dealing with the issue of crime on public transport quite decisively.

It certainly does provide an unsettling read.  What disturbs me is how young these murderers are.........and even if they complete their sentences without parole they will still be relatively young!
