Basically before Westfield there was nothing there except for a fairly derelict piece of land and a tube depot, and since putting 300 shops with 100,000's of people into the area, crime has risen. It's a bit like saying "That stretch of Green Belt never had any crime in it until they built Milton Keynes". As the crime statistics have been used to incoporate the whole Shepherd's Bush area, it looks like crime has risen, when in actual fact, compared with other large shopping centres, it's surprisingly low. The anticipated rise in thefts on the underground system never materialised and due to the close working of local MPS, BTP and TOCU (on the buses) the Shepherd's Bush area has actually seen an increase in visible Policing, which in turn reduces crime, as can be seen from the wider crime statistics for the borough. With regards to the tube system, the LU stations surrounding Shepherd's Bush (Wood Lane, Shepherd's Bush Central, White City, Shepherd's Bush Market, Goldhawk Road) have never been safer or better Policed as our levels of crime demonstrate.
