Hammersmith Park - looked lovely today

Wanted to say how lovely it was in there this morning, no dodgy groups of youths, birds singing, the pond has water in it and the sound of the waterfall........well if I could have thought of a good enough excuse I would have sat there rather then come into the office.  Well done to all the park attendents.

I don't buy the Times - nor generally even read it apart from when my mum points out something...but I do filch "books for  schools" tokens from any copy I find lying about - for Lucy of the Chiswick site: got one from a headhunter's office  last week ( I suspect that's all I got)

What is a guerrilla gardener? One who shoots leaves and eats? Unlike a panda.I see Sara is 'fessing up to The Times now on top of the Daily Mail (shock, horror) and The Grauniad. How I marvel - I can only get through Metro, THe Londoner and London Lite, before I put my book down and zzzzz.Hammersmith Park has what is called a Japanese Garden in it, and can also be accessed from South Africa Road. Nothing odd about the name nor of Hammersmith Hospital's. The old parish of Fulham which for the best part of 800 years had the boundaries of the current LB Hammersmith & Fulham we all know and love was split into two boroughs when municipal govenrmewnt came our way im the 1880s+/-. The park was so named pre-1965, I believe. The two boroughs merged in 1965 and the now-merged London Borough of Hammersmith was renamed, to play to a populist Fulham gallery, during the 1978-1982 council as the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. But fortunately they ddin't rename either my birthplace or the eponymous park.

I'll put some more plants in the tub outside the shop. There was a lovely show of daffs which was soon squashed by the drunks who must sit in it at night. There are alway stubbed out fags and cans in it, unfortunately. Maybe I should introduce spikes before the tub breaks under the weight!

I will mention it, Sarah, I don't think she goes to Acton. She often works on her own, and I don't think she belongs to an 'official' group. Carries her tools across London on the tube. Amazing lady.

They are the family living next door to the south...The planters are where the Perryn Road rail bridge meets Goldsmith Avenue/Goldsmith Road W3. - A bit out of your patch. And today some idiot wearing huge boots was trampling them as he put up scaffolding "oh it only belongs to the council and doesn't matter" was the response to my descent gibbering with fury and yelling. He did look quite scared hough!

Not sure what/where Quatadas is?  Wherabouts are you located, interested to see the planters you mention, may give me some ideas.

I've just ordered some ground cover perennials - 24 for £14.90 through the Times - and will use some - send a few next door (NOT to the Quatadas - other way) and use the rest in the planters down the road. The varieties are supposed to be hardy and fast growing so just the ticket.

How fantastic....never knew there was such a group.  But, and this is the honest truth, where I live (Flora Gardens) my block is having loads of work done so the area at the back is sort of out of bounds at the moment but because I had to clear my balcony of my pot plants I put one down there and unbelievably it is still there.  Anyway this gave me an idea, there is part that is crying out for some plants and I mentioned to a neighbour that when it is finished I am going to plant some.  Goodness knows how long they will last but looking at this site has made me more determined to do it.

Wonderful people who spread plants and clear up horrid bits of earth. Started in Britain I think but now quite widespreadhttp://www.guerrillagardening.org/They do lots with the bare bits at the bottoms of trees, on roundabouts etc.The site is great.

I love guerrilla gardeners - or at least the concept - haven't met one yet. I don't suppose your neighbour would like to turn her attention to Acton would she - lots of opportunity.

I believe my 84 yr old neighbour was initially responsible for some of the work on that park. She's a guerilla gardener and works all day in all weathers!

I work opposite and use the Tesco's and Post Office regularly.  I believe it is open to all (well certainly the shops are) but suspect there is some limits on what can be done on the grass area, ie no b-b-q's, dogs etc.

I was at the White City media centre earlier this week and the grassy patch there was covered in sunning bodies. There are quite good facilities such as Tescos, a Post Office and Starbucks (but Davy's wine bar is truly grim) I wonder if the local population use it or if it's just BBC chaps and chapesses.

It is also known as the "BBC Park" and is a fabulous little space, with a very mixed bunch of planting and a very mixed bunch of visitors, but one of the better-maintained spaces in H&F and why can't SH B GR be afforded a bit more TLC rather than a shed load of expenditure and then no maintenance. westfield has sheeled out plenty but it not about the design it is about the upkeep.

Oh of course I know that one - just didn't realise it was called Hammersmith Park - strange really but like Hammersmith Hospital - miles from where we think of as Hammersmith.

Back of Television Centre, top of Frithville Gardens, or there is an entrance on Loftus Road just before the Springbok pub (if you were walking up from Wood Lane)It is the same one that I posted (22nd May) about re BBC staff being threatened.........so unfortunately I only walk through in the morning, am very wary of going home that way now.
