New Allotments for Hammersmith & Shepherds Bush

Please support my campaign to create a new allotment site or community garden on the far west side of Old Oak Common, Wormwood Scrubs.I live on Braybrook St W12 so spend a lot of time on the common, the far westerly side which borders on Old Oak Lane is the least used, it is where tent City us to be based for the winter. Currently there is an old disused picnic area and a tarmac section which has fallen into disrepair. What I propose is to turn this section into Allotments. The point is that the part of the Eurostar North Pole depot that was in LBH&F was built partly on railway land, with the Brunel Great Western railway line inched north a fraction, but mostly on what had previously been public open space seuqestered by Act of Parliament. The good thing about allotments is that they can be squeezed in at lots of locations, though ideally not lead-soaked lots adjacwent ot motorways.The Old Oak depot land could go for squiliions once the property market recovers. We can howeevr rely on the railway property arm to mistime its sale.I've met Michael Wale once or twice and found him a nice guy, although now a little to my right.

I certainly support your effort. I have an allotment in the Emlyn Road Leisure Gardens (old railway line) and they are smaller than the usual, which is fine. I had wind of ideas to develop the area north of the scrubs as the Eurostar has gone, which took up a great deal of the railway land. I hope that it is  to remain North of the railway line.

Oh he's a huge allotment buff - very active in Acton and London-wise and writes columns in allotment weekly or whatever it is...I too thought he only knew about sport - but things change.Shame about Angie Bray - for the allotment campaigners...she was rather good on our local one I thought.

Rollo - what exactly is owned by a trust, but managed by the council? The Scrubs? The ex-Tent City land? Surely that was part of the Scrubs? How did a lease get granted, to whom, for how long, and with what restrictive covenants in the event of discontuation of existing use (e.g. Tent City)?This doesn't automatically mean I'm hostile to allotments there (or anywhere - I know there is unmet demand). By the way, your current (and, I hope, future) MP for Braybroke Street is Andrew Slaughter - don't feed an issue outside her desired constiuency to Angie Bray into whose constituency this land does not currently, nor will it in the future, fall. She's standing for the LB Ealing side of the Old Oak Common Lane. I also wasn't aware Michael Wale was a buff either on allotments or on Wormwood Scrubs.

It is owned by a trust? but managed by the council, they are open to the idea but i need more supporters to get their serious attention.thanksrollo

Who owns it - and why would any owners allow you to do that? Most of the landlords of non-council owned allotments - water boards and the like - make every effort to dispossess allotment holders whenever they can.Is Angie Bray your tory candidate? She has helped allotment holders in East Acton hang on to their plots. Maybe she could help.Michale Wale is the other local expert.

Totally support you, and have you seen my thread I posted yesterday re planned “mega development” on the site to the north of the Wormwood Scrubs nature reserve, to include thousands of new homes, as well as shops, businesses and possibly even a Crossrail station"
