Kills germs - and viruses - dead!

Having the TV on in the background, I have just heard that D*tt*l kills germs - and viruses - dead/fast, where previously the advertisements did not mention viruses unless I am mistaken.That's interesting. Curious the World Health Organisation, Centre for Disease Control, NHS etc haven't latched onto this in their fight against swine flu.Being more serious, given we have now two cases locally, how worried are people about swine flu (I nearly typed wine flu, which really would worry me)? What chances do we feel there are of there being thousands and thousands of deaths in the UK, in London, in West London, in our streets? Or do we all have faith that modern medicine will once again come galloping in and sort this one out?

I hate to agree re the hygiene........many people do not wash their hands after going to the loo.........oh no don't want to think too much about this.....:-(((

I HATE shopping - even more having just come back from an expedition to Ealing - SOO Grim!Of course you are right about normal hygiene but it's the sort of thing we all (well many people) skimp on...look at the exhortations in hospitals - they seem to go largely ignored.

Oh Sara, you lucky lady.  All that shopping potential!Coming back to the swine flu.....what worries me more is the fact that we are having to be TOLD that washing hands, using and disposing of tissues, etc will stop the spread.  Sorry but to me that is something that should be done as a matter of normal hygiene.......or am I just suffering from a hygiene phobic??????

I'm not paying for all of them - one is sort of work - and I find it's the accommodation rather than the flights that are really pricey - luckily I am staying with friends some of the time.

It's money, daahling, money, that prevents me travelling the world, not swine flu phobia. Otherwise I'd be in Nice, Venice, Agra, NY, SF, Paris, etc like a shot.

Aren't you? Crikey I'm doing New York, Geneva, Nice and Milan by plane in the next six weeks - having not flown for six months. I just know (putting aside swine flu exposure) that the phobias will make it hell for at least the first couple but that, with luck, I'll be  blase - and with luck still flu-less by the end of August.

I think the medics arem ore worried since HIV got going about both virus-mutations and species-jumpingThe common factor about SARS, swine and bird flu is that pandemic airborne spread can be very rapid and very damaging. Just because the fatalities so far are few and not many lethal is not a pointer (yet). In the early days of HIV the number of deaths was very low. When it got going there was then over-estimation of the future death rate. Waht has happened since then is that the death rate in the developed world has been constrained whilst it has continued apace in the developing world. Now the west is suffering from neglect of the problem in the developing world. But that is not an airborne pandemic. With an airborne pandemic the entire process could bes far more rapid. We shall see. I'm not flying anywhere meanwhile.

One death and that in someone with other complications....which makes almost every activity you can think of more dangerous than swine flu.Wouldn't we be better off worrying about diabetes, hypertension and obesity?

Considering all the cases so far have been quite mild and the medics are saying the virus doens't seem to be mutating, I'm not particularly worried at all. There was a big panic over Sars and then bird flu but neither one was as bad as we were led to believe they would be.
