What's happened to the postal strike?

Our post has been disrupted for months on end but now that a national strike has been announced we seem to have a street full of posties delivering mail! The deliveries have suddenly become very regular. What is going on? Anybody know?

If it were modernised and mechanised maybe at least it could lose less - though I agree that delivering to the Orkneys is never going to be a money-making exercise.

Surely this is all a nonsense. THe money making side of the post office was sold of yonks ago for peanuts and there is no chance that what is left is a money making outfit anymore, but is a necessary service. Over 20% of the population are not on line adn can't obtain access to a lot of the things that are assumed that will go inline or digital or onto your mobile etc.

Seems it's off till after Xmas though no conclusions reached.Did the union realise it was slitting its own throat or did moderate members overpower the militant few (as the Daily Mail would have us believe)?Or some other reason?

Didn't you see the news? They got 30,000 people in to replace the posties when they are on strike.Still, the whole service is a joke. I waited 3 weeks for a parcel, then the postie turned up in the day when I'm of course, at work. Then I re-arranged a redelivery for a saturday, when I'm actually at home. Then of course, the postie came without the parcel, claiming he didn't see it. Then they tried to redeliver it again without my consent during the week, when I was back at work. ANd when I finally got down to the sorting office (on crutches, in pain) the parcel wasn't there and was apparently 'in transit' as it was trying to be redelivered. They've had it for 3 weeks now and it's being returned to the sender today. They are a load of effing twats!

Funnily enough, the bills seem to manage to get through, no probs. It's the offer of college interview for son/cheques (permanently in the post) and stiff invites to posh parties that seem not to be arriving at the moment. Possibly cos none of them were sent.

Dunno - but we were amazed to get a full delivery Saturday and today...and from Bollo Bridge Road sorting office too - one of the most radical apparently.
