Chinese New Year celebrations at Westfield

It's a pity that Shepherds Bush no longer has a good quality chinese restaurant. When I first moved here, there was a fabulous chinese restaurant in Brook Green, where Snows was until recently, and now there are no such restaurants, and the nearest is in Notting Hill. There is a new restaurant at the premesis that housed the Bamboo House (or was it Bamboo Garden?) on Wood Lane but that has gone and another replaces it but it is not clear whether or not it is the same proprietors. If the same I wouldn't bother, but if new and better, I might be tempted. Mind you, we are only 20 minutes from Soho on the Central Line and the choice there is extensive.

Royal China is in Queensway (they have other branches in London like Baker St).  Excellent yum cha / dim sum.  Not cheap but well worth a special treat.  Quality food and great atmosphere!  It is an upmarket restaurant and I'd say the best in London.  Seventeen (Seizhuan cuisine and dim sum) is number 17 Notting Hill.  Across the road from the charity shop and second hand record shop near the Czech embassy (?).  Why not also try Pearl Liang in Paddington Basin?  Amazing place and delicious to die for food. PL and RC are the best to try, though.  Enjoy!!!

Where exactly are the Royal China and Seventeen? It sounds like they might be worth trying. Pho in Westfield is Vietnamese and has a few good dishes but the seating area is too open and busy, bit like eating in an airport.

Bamboo House was a major disappointment.  You're right - no such fantastic chinese restaurant exists in the Bush.  They should be ashamed of themselves the quality of food they serve at Bamboo et al. - criminally cooked food indifferently flogged with a smile - I'm ashamed.  Chop Chop is gloopy and Hammersmith's very boring and bland!  Royal China and Seventeen are the only decent ones about.  Happy Valley (now VEG? premises) thankfully gone - another serving insulting chinese gloop full of flavourings only!  Takeaways don't count.  Better to learn to cook chinese food yourself - even if you're bad at cooking, it will at least be healthier, tastier, fresher, value for money and more genuine (and that's saying something!)

The North China on the Uxbridge Road near Acton police station is famous for miles as the best Chinese around - it's often packed and you really need to book friday/saturday nights.Great peking duck, good soups, delicious broccoli and ginger.Actually nothing is less than great. Not expensive....and lovely staff led by the owner (I think) Laurence.
