Front page story - property closed down on Cleverly Estate....

.....due to anti social behaviour.But what happens to these people?  I presume the law of the land says they have to be given somwhere to live?  So are they moved to somewhere else in the borough to reap more misery?  Or are they moved further afield.............like the moon!

Unless the troublesome are rehoused somewhere much less desirable - and  I believe there is evidence that they are...on the other hand, that just makes sink estates even worse...but a considerable incentive to better behaviour - as in" behave yourself or you are going to one of the condemned tower blocks on the South Acton Estate"Could work

Actually I would imagine in privatly rented property the landlords would be quick to act on troublesome tenents.....assuming the whole house/block were not all causing problems.  They know that if one is making life a misery and the others move out then they won't get any rent.  My question is re council evicting troublesome neighbours.....are the council then obliged to find said people alternative accommodation because if so a) surely it is just moving problem from one area to another and b) it makes a mockery of being evicted if they know they will get rehoused elsewhere.  And no, I don't have an answer as to how the problem should be dealt with.

I sspect the "owner ccupiers" are not a major problem.When we had troublesome neighbours - as in 12/14 partying kiwis - not the current one imprisoned terrorist (alleged) and his family - who were private tenants of an owner non-occupier, the council were really helpful because it was a house in multiple occupancy without a licence. Ealing wrote a couple of threatening letters, I told the owners the extent of the damage caused by excessive partyining and they were evicted quite quickly.

It seems it is left to individuals with the fortitude to do battle, as you say, but it seems unfair. Are there any organisations that can help and provide guidance and support?

In my experience, the "authorities" don't do anything about problems with neighbours in the private sector. You have to sort it out yourself (which means spending a whole heap of money on solicitors and such like).

Interesting... it seems also to apply only to occupants of council property, but I am happy to be corrected. Quote - Officers went through police records and compiled a full case file for an application to be made under Part 1A of the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003. This relatively new piece of legislation has evolved from the original 'crack house' closures. The legislation gives the Police and their partners the power to close properties on the grounds of anti-social behaviour alone, although the power relates to the property rather than the occupant.Owner occupiers seem not to come under the same rules regarding antisocial behaviour. If you have neighbours that are regularly objectionable but own their property, there seems to be fewer "teeth" for authorities to bite with. These people cannot be moved anywhere else. not that this is a solution!
