Northern Roundabout Works 4th May - 13th June

You may have had the letter from TFL regarding the partial closure and sometimes complete closure of the Northern roundabout for five weeks. Last time this happened (quite recently)it created chaos as all the traffic backs up on the A40, down Wood Lane, the Green becomes gridlock and the feeder roads (Shepherds Bush Rd, Holland, Road, Holland Park Road Uxbridge Road etc) to the Green become almost stationary. It takes half an hour to get up or down Wood Lane and if you live near the Green you have no choice but to sit in long, motionless, and often very bad-tempered, jams. Be warned!!

With the Central line out of action over the weekend and a tube strike on Monday I suspect that some pressure has been brought to bear or common sense has prevailed. I do think they (TFL)try! This infrastructure work has to be done at some point. Fortunately the work on the traffic lights at Harrow Rd near the top of Scrubs Lane have finished which does make for clearer alternative routes to all points northwest.

The Northern roundabout is un-worked-upon from October 1st - 4th according to a roadside notice...so if you want to make a journey on the westway, do it before Tuesday.

Try the A40 in Acton this weekend for a jam - 6 lanes down to 2!

And yet westway totally clear now - according to bemused husband who left nearly an hour early and has arrived already.

My understanding is 5 weeks so 4 and a half more! The traffic reports on BBC London and Capital are rubbish! The total gridlock of W12 area is not reported and the nightmare delays on the A40 into and out of town are not reported. I can't believe how much time I have wasted in traffic in the last week. Talk about getting people to spend to keep the econmony going, how about we allow people to waste less time unproductively earning ZIP in jams and get to work in order to earn something to spend... oh yeah and be taxed on etc!!

Even the Oxford Tube timetable has been severely disrupted and the buses have been seen redireftin their route up all sorts of smaller streets  in an attempt to avoid the jams

So finally it is happening - this time without warning us with letters, as the project has been postponed twice before, as I recall. One hour to get from Hangar Lane to Shepherds Bush this evening! Shepherds Bush and White City, and beyond have been stationary. And with having spent an additional hour in the jam on the North circ in the morning, I have spent 3 hours totally unproductively in the car.

"The work involves waterproofing and re-surfacing the outer ring of the roundabout. This will require lane closures during the project and, at times, full night time closures of the roundabout" That is all the letter says, Richard, and certainly said until 13th June.

Thanks for the warning.The TfL website says:"04 May 10 (08:00) to 01 Jun 10 (18:00)All directions, Lane restrictions in place to facilitate resurfacing works. Weekday working hours will be 2130hrs - 0600hrs. Weekend working hours will be 0800hrs - 0600hrs. [sic]"Nothing there about complete closures.  Does the letter indicate when these might happen?
