tesco is askew road

There isnow a strong rumour that Tesco are to open at the Old Bull and Bush site in Askew Road. No warnings. Just rumour. Is this democracy. Or did Tesco apply for planning permission under one of their other company names. It will noy jelp our excellent new wine shop, or the young people who run the newsagents. Is this the real Big Society?

It's true monopolistic Tesco did not need planning consent for change of use to trade out of the former pub [consent was required for extension work and flats above].  This is a quirk of planning law - effectively a pub is retail already.  I do know that the H&F Planning Approvals Committee and officers find this very frustrating!SO: lobby MP?  To protect existing retailers, let's speak with our feet.  [I know I'm perfect but..]  I love not to shop at Sainsbury's Local [ho! ho!] if purchase is available elsewhere in Askew Rd and look forward to never shopping at  Tesco, now fitting out.Think " Big Society, buy Smaller " ?Richard 'Meldrew' ScottPS:  Anyway, community-owned Coop is more than competitive price wise than JS and our bread/wine/convenience traders are between them greatly superior in range,quality, service and often price!

Tesco will not need planning permission, just move in when suitable alterations are made. Wait and see.

There is now a Tesco at the top and bottom end of Shepherds Bush Market and this, I believe, has had a not insignificant effect on the trade at the market. More is not always good.

U MAY BE CORRECT ...WE ALREADY HAVE 4 DECENTS STORES AND THE SHOP/PUB/CAFE BALANCE IS PROBABLY JUST ABOUT RIGHT FOR THAT ROAD ....SO I WOULD OPPOSE A NEW TESCO SITE ..JUST  LIKE PEOPLE DID IN OPPOSING THEM IN HAMM KING ST./.CHISWICK HIGH ROAD ASKEW IS REALLY STARTING TO GET NOTICED BY RETAILERS.SO DONT GET HUNG UP WITH FEARS OF WESTFIELD ..(ANOTHER WORLD)AND IS VERY MUCH IMPROVING EACH MONTH.. THE REMOVAL OF A FEW LOW GRADE SCRUFFY SITES WILL ALSO HELP US ALL ..
