That's two people killed within about a month within a few hundred yards of each other. They both happened in relatively nice residential areas which you wouldn't normally associate with crime. Is the Bush just unlucky or is gang violence getting out of control?

It is so dependent of demographic:3% of londons streets see more than 30% of the crime.10% of criminals do about 50% of the crime and 4% of the population experience about 40% of the crime. All this quoted by an Assistant chief constable in the Met at a youth crime conference I attended today.

My concern is why it seems so "normal" for the youth of today to be carrying knives or guns? And that using these weapons seems to come so easy to them? I know a lot of it will be to do with being seen as the big guy/girl in a gang but when I was younger a lot of the battles were dealt with by a bit of a fist fight or hair pulling!

Is there more crime - or do we just hear about it more - and quicker? The crime figures show a largely declining trend since the early nineties - though not in knife crime admittedly. You are probably safer now than you used to be as long as you are not in specific demographics: young men, especially young BME men are disproportionately likely to end up violently attacked...yet little old ladies tend to be the most worried about crime.

According to the Hammersmith site there has been another stabbing in Hammersmith bus depot this afternoon.
Yes - that there are a lot of nasty people in this world!

You wouldn't expect to be beheaded while in a grocery store in Tenerife either.Does it mean anything?

Indeed - interesting if somewhat unsettling stuff

Shocking and very sad, and particularly if it was, as suggested, a case of mistaken identity. There is a very interesting and somewhat disturbing debate on this Shepherds Bush blog; http://tinyurl.com/67wzdlp
yep. I am contradicting myself. not sure what I was thinking there tbh.

Dominik, you've kind of contradicted yourself. Surely if drive by shootings are normal then things are getting out of control.Part of my surprise at this attack is that the location seems to be on the surface a much more desirable part of London than the areas near where I live but has much more violent crime. I appreciate two murders in a short spell may be just a coincidence but there does seem to be much more crime in this specific location than you'd expect.

I wouldn't say out of control. clearly this was a planned attack, seems to be normal nowadays to have drive by shootings on bicycles??I just don't understand the how something as awful as that happens, surely there is no valid reason for something like this.
