Can now recycle yoghurt pots and plastic food tray packaging

Is this correct that we can now recycle this stuff in H&F? Great move forward if so. Only plastic bottles until now I think.

Oh and if you can't understand your Council's info PLEASE email them and ask your questions.  If you can't understand it then you can bet you are not the only person and it is their job to make that info nice and clear - or they won't get the result they are looking for!

It was always ALL plastic BOTTLES in the kerbside collection - not just water bottles for H&F.The division between bottles and other packaging is simply because plastic bottles are made out of fewer different types of plastic than food packaging and that makes it simpler to sort.Ealing's kerbside collection has been mixed plastic food packaging and all plastic bottles for years.Hounslow's kerbside collection has just changed to mixed plastic food packaging and all plastic bottles.It depends on the contracts that each Council has.Supermarkets may have different contracts to the Council and there certainly were dedicated plastic bottle banks before the kerbside collection took over.As the processing facilities in this country improve the contracts will gradually change as do the markets for the recyclates which are important and change.Each Council has comprehensive info on their website available 24 hrs (such a change from the 9-4 phone call that needed to be made once upon a time).It is therefore very important you know which borough you are living in!!

I'm in Chiswick (Ealing part) and we've always been putting what is considered  'plastic' (not just water-bottles) in the specific white waste sack provided by Ealing council, on the assumption that it is for ALL plastic items - food containers, yoghurt pots, plastic toys etc, (in other words, everthing non bio-degradable). Hard to believe that H&F have only been accepting plastic water-bottles until now!

Yes, in the orange sacks.  Another step forward.http://www.lbhf.gov.uk/Directory/Environment_and_Planning/Recycling_reuse_and_rubbish/Recycling/Homepage.aspI also think the H&F small electrical recycling collection points are a brilliant idea - and have been hailed a great success and so have been extended.  I've suggested this to my home Council but didn't even get an acknowledgement. They were ahead and now seem to be falling behind.  Shame.
