Time for the BBC to move back to Shepherd's Bush?

All this kerfuffle happens soon after Television Centre is closed down. Coincedence? I think not. Judging by the disgruntled, disillusioned and disaffected BBC employees I have spoken to the problems at the Beeb are pretty deep seated and they may have to think about winding the clock back just to get things back on an even keel.

Agreed. The BBC belongs here,it's spiritual home. I, too, know of many people who are so unhappy with what's going on in the organisation that they've take redundancy, or are starting up their own business. The BBC's plans are terribly flawed.

There are too many people employed at the BBC. The move to Salford has not helped this. Also middle management has bulged as we have seen in the latest debacles. Editors should be allowed to rule. If they make a mistake then we know who is to blame. as for the bloated news department news is becoming entertain,ment. It is often not covered properly. More foreign news should be features. Again moving to the provinces has not helped As for morale John Birt ended that. His reign was the beginning of the end of the BBC as we knew and admired it. Slim it down. Cut the licence fee. It is still a great institution.It also need an outside Director General who has worked in the real world, not the protected world of the BBC.As the late inadequate DG.

Point taken and I was only being half serious.There is however a clear morale issue at the Beeb which I'm sure you'll get confirmed if you speak to people there. Because the licence fee has been frozen it is one of the few areas of the public sector which is having to genuinely reduce spending and make some hard choices.

Newsnight is a London based team and  the senior management responsible for this mess remain based here. The debacle has nothing to do with the national broadcaster's attempt to make sure it did genuninely represent the country by trying to unwind decades of over-concentration in London.
