Cat rescue?

Evening,ive been feeding a cat in my street,Davisville rd,it belongd to one of my nieghbours.They tell me someone complained becausr it was always out and the condition of its coat and the Rspca came took it.Does anyone know about this or who the complainant might be? I just need to know the story checks out and the cat is ok.It is a black male cat with a white chin/chest.Thanks in advanceAndy

Ignore that. Just opened our front door as Robbie decided he wanted to go out the front and there he was staring through our front gate. Hissed at us.

Has anyone seen Scarface recently. I am sure I have not seen him for a couple of weeks. Also the other larger black and white that used to come in our cat flap and upset Robbie.

Hello jojo,hes doing ok got a kitten that turned up last year on next doors 1st floor back window which i took in,and shes driving him mad :-).ive kept him him in,i thought if he makes a fuss to get out then i'll have to,but him being neutered hes settled in perfectly

Andrew, how's Pishu settling in?  Scarface has now taken to walking up our external spiral staircase to our balcony and 'spraying' up our back door (with Bodhi looking out innocently from the inside!).

OH, Andrew - I've just read the rest of this thread after not being in the forum for a bit.  I'm so happy to read of everything you have done for this cat - you are a wonderful person.  Its so easy as a kitten foster carer to get a bit jaded about human behaviour as I'm on the receiving end of some horror stories so it is lovely to hear how hard you worked to track down this cat and that you are prepared to care for him on even if he is unwell.

Hi Andrew...just wanted to what a wonderful thing you have done, giving this old boy a home.  He will be so grateful to you for giving him some creature comforts that it sounds like he may well have been craving.  Hope the visit to your vet goes OK, but the main thing is you have saved him and he is now a very loved kitty.

Jojo,pishu is black with white chin and underbellyHe s always out he tends to hang around the middle ofvthe street both sided of the road.The story is bitter sweet.The vets at Putney blue cross examined  and found what they thinkbis a thickening if his stomach,they think this might be cancer.wont know till i get my vets,Alcombe in Northfield ave Ealing,to give him the once over.keep him in now and he seems remarkabley rlaxed after living and sleeping on streets.Fingers crossed

We call him Scarface too!!!  I've not seen him around in a long time which I why I thought it was the cat Andrew was worried about!  Likewise, he has roamed into our flat...or was that Robbie!!!  No harm caused though.

Scarface is still around, he does the block as well and has been in our flat stealing Robbie's food! Robbie is not an alpha male and tends to avoid other cats, he got into a  fight with Scarface though.

Yes, I know which one Robbie is.  I tried introducing Bodhi to him the other day...neither were keen!!!  I'm still clueless as to who Pishu is or looks like because he doesn't sound like the other black and white cat which used to come to our garden - this one had scars/scratches on its face...

That is a lovely end to the story. Reading through this trail I think the nicer/younger looking black and white cat who may pass through Davisville Road gardens may be our Robbie. He is 4 and we got him from The Mayhew Animal Home last July. We live in Hadyn Park Road and he likes exploring the gardens in the block. He is chipped but unfortunately won't let us put a collar on him.

Aah, that's a lovely happy ending. So glad you found him and he's now got a comfy home. If you ever need a cat feeder, I'm only down the road.

Hello jojo,good news,i managed to trace him  to Putney blue cross after about 60 phone calls,seriuosly, as they dont awnser thier phone.Hes a 13 year old cat and i was starting to sweat a bit as i know they wont rehome treat him of hes sick.He cant be the cat in your garden as the this fella has been neautered and chipped,and is big dribbling softie.After speaking to the rspca inspector who took him and explained i was happy to adopt him,he would have probably been put to sleep as they found thickening on his bowels which could be cancer,i got him signed over to me.Heis ,probably for the first time in his life,discoveering the joy of his own armchair and quilt,and he loving it.:-)

That was the reason I said "rescue" as I got the impression from the original post that Andrew may be a bit upset if he thinks the cat would be destroyed.  However I would hope that the RSPCA would not just come along and pick up a cat (unless it was in obvious signs of illness or distress) and remove it without checking if it is owned.  Unless of course the owner of the cat agreed for it to be taken.

If the cat is a entire tom and this is causing problems he can be caught, neutered and returned, but only after steps have been taken to prove he is stray - for example putting a paper collar around his neck with a message asking the owner to call a phone number to confirm if he is an "owned" cat.

I know the cat in question as it harasses my cat (when he goes for a wonder in our garden on Davisville Road), and the other neighbourhood cats.  It sprays and I believe it 'knocked up' my neighbours kitten twice (long story) a few years ago!  I thought it was called William as I heard someone call a cat by that name prior to the new cats on the block making an appearance - a nicer/younger looking black and white cat and a young dark grey and white cat.  However, I do not know who any of them belong to. I haven't complained about the said cat though, and although I'm not a fan of him, I hope he finds a loving home.

PLEASE don't let the RSPCA "rescue" this cat - if they do they might put it to sleep after a couple of weeks if it doesn't get adopted in that time.  If the cat is a stray and needs to be found a new home, please contact one of the "no-kill" rescue centres (Cat's Protection, Mayhew, HAWS etc.) and see if they can take it?  If all else fails, maybe you could foster the animal for one of the no kill centres so that it can stay with you whilst they find it a home (I know HAWS have had over 40 kittens handed in in the last month so are unlikely to have room and am sure Cat's Protection and the Mayhew are in a similar position).

Hi Andy - when you say "it belonged" to a neighbour, are you saying that person is no longer around?  Also normally if the RSPCA "rescue" a cat I believe they should put a notice on a nearby lamp post/tree advising of a contact number and reference in case it does belong to somebody.
