Putney Vote Now Looks Set To Be Very Close

Major boost for Labour as tactical voting sites unanimously back Fleur Anderson

The four candidates for the Putney seat

The contest for the Putney seat in the general election looks set to be extremely close with some evidence that Labour are closing the gap on the Conservatives.

Fleur Anderson, the Labour candidate has received a major boost with the news that all the major tactical voting sites now are recommending that Remain inclined voters should back her.

Previously there had been a difference of opinion with some suggesting that the Liberal Democrat candidate, Sue Wixley would be the better option for those wanting the UK to stay in the EU.

Along with a relatively poor showing in the national polls for the Liberal Democrats, this has led to a significant change in the betting odds which had previously seen some booking predicting a second place for the party.

Now, across the board they are predicting an very close contest between Labour and the Conservative candidate, Will Sweet with the latter still the marginal favourite although some bookies have Fleur Anderson at evens.

The Liberal Democrats have drifted out as far as 12/1 against with William Hill.

This chimes with the recently released polling information from YouGov which is the most comprehensive study of the election on a constituency by constituency basis. This suggested that Putney was ‘leaning Conservative’ but with both the Tories and Labour having a percentage share of the vote in the thirties with the Liberal Democrats getting low twenties and Fergal McAntee for the Greens getting a low single digit share.
