Grants of up to £5,000 for local community groups

Voluntary and community groups in Hammersmith and Fulham will be able to apply for funds of up to £5,000 as part of the Government’s £130million Grassroots Grants scheme.

The scheme is designed to help small, local groups run projects and activities that benefit local residents.

Any voluntary group or community group which has been active for at least 12 months and has an annual income of less than £20,000 is eligible to apply. Schools or other statutory bodies or individuals are not eligible.

Grassroots Grants have already been awarded to the following types of group in the west and south west London area:

  • Pre-school playgroups
  • Breakfast clubs
  • Sports clubs
  • After-school clubs
  • Supplementary schools
  • Lunch clubs
  • Support groups
  • BME groups
  • Uniformed groups (Scouts or Guides etc)
  • Disability groups
  • Holiday schemes
  • Allotment associations
  • Music, Arts, Dance, Drama groups,
  • Residents or Tenants Associations
  • Environmental groups
  • Youth clubs
  • Seniors groups

Groups can apply for a minimum grant of £250 up to a maximum of £5,000

Examples of funded projects are:

  • The purchase of equipment such as computers or furniture
  • The costs of putting on a local event or workshop
  • Staff costs to employ someone such as a supervisor, co-ordinator or sessional worker
  • Costs of attending a conference or event
  • Training for volunteers
  • Contribution to the cost of rent
  • Funding to support a group to achieve a quality or other standard relevant to their activities
  • Activities that meet needs in the local community
  • Building repairs or refurbishment
  • Running costs

The Grassroots Grants programme, funded by the Office of the Third Sector (OTS), is a key element of the Government’s strategy to build stronger and more active communities by increasing small grant funding to community groups and making them more sustainable.
