A4 Closed Westbound from Hammersmith After Serious Collision

Closure causing tailbacks and bus delays on Friday morning

The A4 is closed westbound from Hammersmith this morning, Friday 7 June following a serious collision on the road during the night.

The westbound flyover itself is closed and there is no access from the slip road onto the A4 westbound.

TfL say they are monitoring and managing traffic but major traffic congestion is likely going into rush hour, and motorists are being advised to please avoid the area and find an alternative route where possible.

@TfLTrafficNews reported just after 2am: " [A4] Great West Road (Westbound) at the junction of Nigel Playfair Avenue - Road is closed due to a road traffic collision. Please use other routes."

Then this morning: "One incident from overnight - the A4 is closed westbound at Hammersmith Flyover due to a serious collision further west in the early hours. Tailbacks to Warwick Road with Hammersmith Gyratory also bearing the brunt, which is causing eastbound congestion from Hogarth."

Buses in the Hammersmith area are also subject to delays and short-notice alterations this morning due to the closure of the A4 Great West Road westbound.

@JambusterLondon has tweeted this map showing the area being affected:

It is not yet confirmed if anyone was injured in the collision, though there are unconfirmed reports that a person was killed.

We will bring you more news as we receive it.
