Television Centre to Become Permanent Home of Top ITV Shows

Productions to stay in White City as broadcaster decides to sell South Bank HQ

Top ITV shows such as Good Morning Britain and The Jonathan Ross Show are set to remain in Shepherd's Bush, after the broadcaster dropped plans to redevelop its site on London's South Bank.

These shows, plus other daytime programmes including Good Morning Britain and Loose Women and evening shows such as Peston are currently broadcasting from studios within the former BBC Television Centre in Wood Lane.

In 2017, BBC Studioworks, a commercial subsidiary of the BBC, reopened three revamped state-of-the-art studios as well as post production facilities within the redeveloped Television Centre.

In autumn last year, a number of ITV shows moved from the South Bank to White City, with offices in White City Place and broadcasting from Television Centre.

At the time, this was intended to be a temporary move, with the shows returning to the South Bank complex after the completion of a five year redevelopment.

Now however, ITV has confirmed that it has dropped that plan and intends to sell the building, near the National Theatre and the London Eye.

According to the Financial Times, analysts expect the sale price to be around £245 million. This would represent a profit for ITV, where the chief executive has implemented a drive to cut costs by up to £40 million.

ITV told the FT: "Since the original decision to redevelop the South Bank site, ITV has launched its new strategy and has successfully moved to new office space in Holborn and studios in W12.

"These provide excellent modern, functional and flexible working environments.

“By remaining in our current London office and studio spaces we can focus more time and resource on the areas of the business which will deliver greatest value."

If you would like to visit Television Centre and join the audience for one of these shows, you can apply for free tickets to SRO Audiences or Applause Store.
