Appeal for witnesses to collision on elevated section of M4

Traffic police are appealing for witnesses to a road traffic collision on the M4 Motorway in Brentford which left a man in a critical condition in hospital.

On Tuesday, 10 May 2011 at about 8.40pm, police were called to the westbound elevated section of the M4 motorway in Brentford following reports of a collision involving a motorcycle.

The rider, a 53-year-old man from Hampstead, was treated at the scene before being taken to a central London hospital having suffered life threatening injuries.

At this stage, no other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the collision.

Detective Sergeant Harry Wilkinson, who is leading the investigation, said, "I am grateful for a number of people who stopped at the scene to assist the emergency services that night. This stretch of motorway was fairly busy at that time and I would urge anyone who may have seen the motorcyclist in the moments leading up to the collision, or the collision itself, to contact Police."
