Graffiti Vandal Jailed for 24 months

£100,000 damage across 13 boroughs

A prolific graffiti vandal who caused over £100, 000 worth of damage across 13 London boroughs has been jailed for 24 months following a British Transport Police investigation.

Sam Moore, 24, of Caesars Road, Newport, Isle of Wight, was also given a five-year anti-social behaviour order (ASBO) after being sentenced at Blackfriars Crown Court.

The court heard that Moore – who pleaded guilty to 25 counts of criminal damage – caused damage over a period of three years between March 2007 and July this year. He targeted trains, stations and infrastructure, as well as shops, across 13 London boroughs, including Hammersmith and Fulham, as well as in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire.

The total damage caused by Moore was estimated as being in excess of £113,000.

Moore was arrested on June 6 this year after being linked to graffiti damage caused near to Hungerford Bridge in London.

Moore’s  "tag" was discovered on graffiti in these locations in Hammersmith & Fulham

• Lillie Bridge Depot, trackside - £3,060
• Lillie Bridge Depot, trackside - £2,930
• Hammersmith station - £1,242.37
• Hammersmith Depot - £2,489.83

This means the total of damage caused in our borough amount to well over £9,000.

The court also heard that Moore continued to offend while on police bail, daubing trains with graffiti during July this year.

"Moore's vandalism was nothing more than wanton damage that costs thousands of pounds to clean up," says Detective Sergeant Jeremy Walley.

"Writing graffiti on the railway or elsewhere is not a harmless pastime and we will continue to work closely with train operating companies, Network Rail and other police forces to reduce these criminal acts."
