Jeremy Vine's Road Rage Video Sparks Angry Debate

As people argue over who was at fault in clash on Hammersmith Road

Broadcaster Jeremy Vine has sparked off a lively debate between local road users after releasing a video showing a heated clash between a cyclist and a motorist on Hammersmith Road.

The Chiswick-based BBC Radio 2 host, who was himself caught up in a road rage row while cycling in Kensington last August, shared the footage on his Facebook page.

The video, which was recorded by his bike-mounted camera on the eastbound lane on Hammersmith Road leading to Kensington on the morning of Wednesday 4 January, shows a white car cut across the path of a cyclist riding in the middle of a lane.

The cyclist is forced to stop and then peers into the driver’s window, gesturing and speaking to them before speeding off ahead.

But further along the road, the driver of the white car appears to grow angry and beeps the horn.

The car appears to accelerate up behind the cyclist before quickly swerving round to the left of him as the pair reach traffic lights.

Jeremy posted the video onto his social media pages with the caption: " A cycle moment to show you from this morning’s commute.

" I was behind the affected cyclist. The white car wants to change lanes, so why wait?"

The video has since attracted over 200 comments, with the arguments about who was at fault becoming steadily more furious.

As an example:

Ann Blyth: Dangerous driving by this woman. Obviously didn't check her left hand mirror before changing lanes. However, the cyclists would have been safer getting behind her.

Darryl Calvert: Well tbh cyclists on roads cause many accidents that they end up involved in, and you only show these that are your thing at the moment, plus in my mind unless you pay road tax for that vehicle ( the bike) then you don't get to use the roads, plus you should be insured and have some kind of ' number plate '

And while some people posted comments praising the broadcaster:

Michael Kater: Well done Jeremy. Please keep posting abuse towards cyclists and conduct endangering cyclists. Using a ton of metal to assault a person on a bicycle is cowardly and stupid. Thank goodness you have the journalistic integrity to make this sort of behaviour public.

Others took a different approach:

Andy Hunt: You will ruin your career if you just keep banging on about this. Yes she didn't see him and it could of been nasty but then to ride in front of someone like that is just asking for trouble.
