QPR manager is sacked after just five months in the job
Queens Park Rangers have fired manager Iain Dowie, just five months after he took over the reins at Loftus Road.
“The Board of Queens Park Rangers Football Club has given notice to terminate the contract of Manager Iain Dowie with immediate effect,” the club said in a statement.
“Player/coach Gareth Ainsworth has been appointed Caretaker Manager on a temporary basis and will take charge of First Team affairs until further notice,” the statement said.
Dowie, who took over from Luigi de Canio in May, has been axed after just 15 games in charge, and leaves with the W12 club ninth in the table.
The 43-year-old was reported to have clashed with Club Chairman Flavio Briatore over the club's transfer policy earlier this season and was also under pressure from the Formula One boss to get the club promoted to the Premier League. It is thought Briatore lost patience with Dowie after Rangers won only one of their last six matches.
Dowie's last game in charge was a 0-0 draw with Swansea
City last Tuesday (21 October).
QPR are now looking for their fifth manager in 12 months and it is thought Gianluca Vialli, Roberto Mancini and former QPR boss Terry Venables are among those being considered for the role.
QPR will play Reading at the Madejski Stadium this Saturday.
