Severe Delays on Newly Opened Tube Lines

Hammersmith & City and Circle lines disrupted by signal failure

There are severe delays on both the Hammersmith and City and Circle Lines on Monday afternoon  - only hours after they were reopened following a three week long closure.

The lines are being disrupted by a signal failure at King's Cross and Transport for London says London Underground tickets are being accepted on local buses via any reasonable route.

This new frustration comes on the day the lines were reopened to the publlic after being shut since July 24 due to Crossrail and London Underground (LU) station works at Paddington.

Announcing the closure, Nigel Holness, LU's Service Director said, "The works at Paddington will involve the demolition of a disused taxi ramp and canopy that sit above the Hammersmith & City line platforms and means that trains will not be able to operate in that area. "

TfL said that while the work was underway at Paddington TfL it would carry out other upgrade work that would have required station closures, including platform extension works to accommodate the new, longer air-conditioned trains and upgrading of track.

This morning, travellers were celebrating the return of the services, but now they are once again facing a slow journey home.
