Guided rides for cyclists include Ravenscourt Park starting point
With tube strikes set to begin in the evening of Monday September 6 and to continue throughout Tuesday, Transport for London has produced a survival guide for travellers on its website.
TfL says it will runs as many trains and keep as many stations open as possible, and volunteers will be on hand at key stations to assist passengers and give alternative travel options.
Among these options is cycling, and Londoners who own bikes are being encouraged to use them to get to work. There will be a series of guided rides on Tuesday morning at 8am, with routes including Ravenscourt Park to Trafalgar Square.
Cycle parks at Finsbury Park and London Bridge will be making it easy for new users to turn up, register, and leave their bikes.
Other alternatives include river services and taxis.
River services, which have been recently improved, will be running as normal. Larger boats will be used where possible to boost capacity and an additional 500 capacity shuttle service is also being provided between Tower, Westminster and London Eye Piers.
This will operate 6.30am - 10am and 4pm - 8pm on Tuesday September 7. This service will be priced at £3 for a single, with all concessions - including those with Travelcards - charged at £1.50
Between 6.30am and 10.30am on Tuesday, taxi drivers will be operating a marshalled taxi service for central London destinations at five major London rail stations - Waterloo, Liverpool St, King's Cross, Charing Cross, and Marylebone.
In addition, the fixed-fare taxi sharing schemes at Euston Station and Paddington Station are expected to operate as normal.
Bus, Overground, DLR and Tramlink services will operate normally.
The strike was given the freen light after talks at conciliation service ACAS broke up.
Ex-Metronet (maintenance and engineering) staff will begin their first 24-hour strike at 5pm on Monday, with similar action also scheduled to begin at the same time on Sunday October 3; Tuesday November 2, and Sunday November 28.
Other LUL grades (including station and revenue staff, operational managers, drivers and signallers) will start their first 24-hour strike at 9pm on Monday, with similar action also set to start at the same time on Sunday October 3; Tuesday November 2, and Sunday November 28.
An indefinite overtime ban for all LUL members of both unions will also start at a minute after midnight on Monday September 6. Timings and forms of action may also be varied.
