Limited Service Planned for Strike Hit Tube

Delays likely from tonight if action proceeds

Tube services are likely to be hit by strike action from Monday evening.

Industrial action by the RMT Union begins at 9.30pm on Monday 28th April and will continue until the morning of 30th April. They say the strike is necessary to prevent ticket office closures which they believe compromise safety.

Transport for London will operate the best service they can manage starting at 7am on the 29th April with the last train being at 11pm on Tuesday and Wednesday. The last services from central London will be significantly earlier at around 9.30pm.

Some stations may close and travellers are advised to check online before departure. London Overground services will operated as normal.

Services are not expected to return to normal before Thursday 1st May. A second round of strikes is due to take place from 9pm on Monday 5th May.

Widespread disruption was caused in February when Tube workers took strike action for one day. A second day was postponed so talks could take place. At the time, the unions, RMT and TSSA, said London Underground had agreed to hold two months of talks, which would include a station-by-station review of the ticket office closures.

The strike action will take place ahead of a May Day event in memory of former RMT leader Bob Crow, who died of a suspected heart attack on 11 March, aged 52. The event will also be in remembrance of Tony Benn, the politician and campaigner who died several days after Mr Crow.

LU said its proposals would see "unparalleled levels of face-to-face customer service, as seen during the London 2012 Games".
