Disgraced Dizaei Dismissed from Police

Former Borough Commander serving four years in jail

Disgraced police officer Ali Dizaei has been dismissed from his job by the Metropolitan Police Authority.

Dizaei, 47, a former Borough Commander in Hammersmith ad Fulham was given a four year jail sentence in February for miscDonduct and perverting the course of justice.

The former senior officer was found guilty of attacking and falsely arresting a web designer in 2008 outside Yas Persian Restaurant in Hammersmith Road.

Since then he has remained a police officer without powers at Scotland Yard, while a tribunal decided what action should be taken against him.

On Wednesday March 31, he was formally dismissed. James Cleverly, vice chairman of the Professional Standards Cases Sub-Committee, said: "The tribunal recommended that the only appropriate sanction was dismissal from the service.

"The sub-committee has accepted the tribunal's recommendation and has today dismissed Commander Dizaei from the Metropolitan Police Service with immediate effect. "As far as the authority is concerned, this is the end of the matter."

In February, Dizaei's solicitors confirmed that he intends to appeal against both his conviction and his jail sentence.
