Candlelit Vigil Outside Ealing Hospital

Community show support for threatened hospital

Hundreds of people turned out for a candlelit vigil in support of Ealing Hospital on Sunday (10th February).

It was the start of a week of action leading up to February 19, when NHS North West London will make its final recommendations about the future of local health services.

Over 400 constituents, campaigners, local community leaders, Ealing Council leader Julian Bell and GLA member Dr Onkar Sahota and Virendra Sharma MP joined the mass gathering outside the hospital.

Ealing Southall Labour MP, Virendra Sharma, said:

“We have to continue our fight to save our hospital, our A & E and its vital service it provides to our community. There will be a Save Our Hospitals demonstration on Saturday 16th February 2013 in Ealing at 12pm. The reconfiguration of the NHS has caused severe unrest amongst my community and everyone affected by the proposals in London. I will continue to fight against these proposals that are unjust and will only cause grave harm to my constituents and those within North West London”.

Virendra Sharma secured a Backbench debate about the proposed A&E closures by the Government on Thursday 7th February. Four hospitals in West London are threatened with closure – Ealing, Central Middlesex, Charing Cross and Hammersmith.
