Carmen Comes to Ravenscourt Park

Opera Novella presents open air performance

On the evening of September 10, Opera Novella will perform Georges Bizet’s opera Carmen in Ravenscourt Park.

This is one of only five public performances held outdoors across the UK this summer.

Carmen is one of the most well known opera comiques from French composer and pianist Georges Bizet; a tragedy based on Mérimée’s novella of the same name.

It tells the story of Carmen, a beautiful gypsy girl living in Seville in 1830 who woos a Basque corporal. His adoration leads to his demise, and his jealousy for her carefree love ultimately leads to tragic circumstances.

The production will be directed by Jane McCulloch with musical accompaniment from Bernie Lafontaine’s chamber orchestra.

The opera is being sponsored by independent estate agents, Douglas and Gordon. Henriette Redgrave, sales manager of Douglas & Gordon’s Hammersmith and Shepherd’s Bush office says: " Following the success of the open air theatre in Ravenscourt Park last year, we are delighted to be involved with this year’s production of Carmen.

" We hope that bringing theatre out of the West End and into west London will encourage people to come along with their picnic baskets for an evening of fun entertainment for the whole family.”

Opera Novella are a UK based touring opera company who have a summer program of operas at various outdoor venues, in addition to their indoor productions which run throughout the year. Every performance stars internationally-acclaimed artists and is accompanied by a full chamber orchestra, providing the audience with the most authentic opera experience.

The performance will take place at 6pm on Friday September 10. Tickets are available from either Douglas and Gordon’s Hammersmith and Shepherd’s Bush office at 118-120 Glenthorne Road or directly from Opera Novella. Tickets are priced at £25 per adult and £10 per child, with early bird discount prices of £22 per adult if you book before August 15.
