Seven Candidates to Stand for Election in Hammersmith


Final list of prospective MPs announced

The final list of parliamentary candidates for the new constituency of Hammersmith has been published, revealing that a total of seven prospective MPs will stand in the General Election on May 6.

The four main candidates competing for the new seat, which includes Shepherd's Bush, are the Labour Party's Andy Slaughter, Conservative Shaun Bailey, LibDem Merlene Emerson and the Green Party's Rollo Miles.

They are joined by two local people, Vanessa Crichton from UKIP and Stephen Brennan who is standing as an independent plus the BNP's James Searle, who is based in Poplar and Limehouse.

The four main candidates took part in a pre-election debate at Imperial College on March 17, and three of them  - Andy Slaughter, Merlene Emerson and Rollo Miles - held a debate on the subject of Palestine at Rivercourt Church on April 7.

The candidates will now meet again on April 22 for an Election Hustings Event at St Paul's Church, Hammersmith at 7.30pm, where they will answer questions submitted by members of the public.

This meeting is free and open to everyone.
