Mayor Plants Three New Trees in Hammersmith Park

Cherry trees sponsored by new White City Lions Club

The Mayor of Hammersmith & Fulham, Cllr Frances Stainton and a prestigious Japanese visitor have planted three new trees in Hammersmith Park.

Hammersmith Park, off South Africa Road contains one of Shepherd's Bush's rarest treasures in the shape of its beautiful Japanese Garden, which dates back to the Japan British Exhibition of 1910.

The Mayor was joined for the planting ceremony by Akira Kobayashi, from the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

Cllr Stainton says: " It was a great pleasure to welcome Mr Kobayashi to Hammersmith Park. This borough has a great affinity to our Japanese friends, dating back to the early twentieth century.

" I am sure the relationship will flourish over the years, like the trees that we planted and we look forward to when a tea ceremony is held among them."

The Mayor and Mr Kobayashi planted three Japanese Cherry trees sponsored by the newly formed White City Lions Club.
