Hand Grenade Found At Stamford Brook

Device found near Tube causes some disruption

An unexploded hand grenade found near Stamford Brook Tube station caused some disruption during the week.

Police explosives officers were called after a member of the public spotted the war weapon at about 1.45pm on Tuesday (15th) under the arches outside the station.

Piccadilly and District lines were disrupted between Acton Town and Hammersmith while checks were carried out.
Nearby offices and households were evacuated as a precaution, but it was found the grenade had already been deactivated and posed no danger.

Service on the line soon returned to normal.

Transport for London said the device was not found on their property but that any disruption was minimal.
