Off-duty Officer Praised for Saving Girl on Train Line

PC Prettejohns' actions prevented tragedy in Hammersmith Station

An officer with British Transport Police's Neighbourhood Policing Team in Richmond has been praised for saving the life of an 11 year-old girl who fell onto the train tracks in Hammersmith Station on Friday, March 21.

PC Jonathan Prettejohns was off-duty at the time of the incident at around 3.20pm on Friday. The girl was reportedly knocked unconscious after accidentally falling from District Line westbound platform and witnesses said the officer saved her life by preventing her from touching live railway lines as she came round.

The girl was then treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken from Hammersmith Broadway to St Mary's Hospital.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called just after 3.20pm to Hammersmith Broadway.

"Our staff treated on patient, a girl, with leg and head injuries. She was conscious and treated and stabilised."

After hearing of PC Prettjohns' actions, Chief Superintendent Paul Brogden, British Transport Police Divisional Commander for London, South and East England, tweeted @BTP_B_Division: " Well done to the off duty @BTPrichmond officer who saved the life of this young girl."

And on their Twitter feed, British Transport Police Richmond said the officer's quick response "saved this turning into a terrible tragedy."
