Donate Your old Duvets or Blankets this Christmas

King Street hairdressers aim to help homeless people survive winter

King Street hairdressers Adam&Potsie Hairdressing have teamed up with fellow hairdresser and photographer Spencer Gymer to help the homeless this Christmas.

They say: "We are challenged with the task of collecting 1,500 of your old duvets and blankets that will be handed out to a number of homeless shelters on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing day.

"We are helping the homeless to fight the cold and with the help of social media we are reaching out to everyone we can to ask them to rummage through their cupboards and dig out any old duvets, blankets and pillows that you could kindly donate to us."

Adam&Potsie's partner Spencer experienced firsthand what it is like to be homeless when he was a teenager and knows how hard it is to live on the streets. Years later whilst running a successful hair salon business he gradually became addicted to alcohol and drugs.

They say: "He was on a downward spiral that was out of his control until one day at seven in the morning on a park bench when his body was physically rejecting the cocaine and he couldn’t swallow any more alcohol he made that call to the rehab centre. A cry for help as he knew he was certainly going to die if he carried on any longer.

"He sold his business to fund himself through rehab and five years later Spencer is clean and has been working hard to stay rehabilitated. On his quest to give back Spencer has spent the last three months photographing the homeless for an exhibition that will take place early next year to raise awareness of homelessness and addiction on the street.

"He has seen firsthand the problems they face with addiction, not having a home, something most of us take for granted and not forgetting the freezing cold temperatures that they face every day."

The team are asking local residents to put spare duvets, pillows and blanks in a big, wrapped up air tight in tape and drop them off at the Adam&Potsie salon at 280 King Street.

You can also call Adam on 0208 748 5806 or email info@adamandpotsie.com and ask for your donations to be collected.

The team say: " Please go outside tonight and imagine what it would be like sleeping rough in these freezing temperatures. It’s unthinkable but most of the homeless do.

"Please donate what you can.

"No one should freeze this Christmas."
