King Street is to go traffic free for the first-ever Hammersmith Christmas Market on Saturday 2 December - and traders are now being invited to join the festive fun.

The inaurgural market which follows the success and popularity of the regular traffic free North End Road Markets in Fulham, will offer over 100 stalls along King Street and in Lyric Square offering seasonal gifts and food.

To add to the seaonal atmosphere, there will be live music, carol singing and a visit from Santa.

H&F Council says if you want to be part of the opening Hammersmith Christmas Market and take a stall, fill in the application form on the council website where you can also download an information sheet telling you all you need to know about setting up your stall.

The council says it is particularly interested in traders of high-quality merchandise including gifts, Christmas and home accessories, clothes, jewellery, crafts and seasonal food.

"It will be a great opportunity for local residents to get a headstart on their Christmas shopping and enjoy a wonderful day out," says Cllr Andrew Jones, H&F Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Regeneration.

"Our pedestrian-friendly markets are proving very popular with both residents and business owners and make a fantastic contribution to our drive to make H&F the greatest place to live, work and shop in Europe."

Motorists are being alerted that King Street will be closed between the gyratory and Leamore Street during the Christmas Festival on 2 December.

Residents and business owners will still have access to Leamore Street and the council says residents will receive a letter with details of the road closure shortly.

Hammersmith's Christmas Market will be followed a week later on December 9 by the traffic free North End Road Christmas Market.

This market, the latest seasonal event to be held in North End Road, promises 150 stalls on each side of the street plus carol singers, the Fulham Brass band, a Rock Choir and a cappella quartet belting out Yuletide tunes such as Jingle Bell Rock and Santa Baby.

There will also be eye-catching street entertainment from the acrobatic elves, roller-skating satsumas, the snow balls, one man band and a visit from Santa.

Traders are also being invited to apply for a stall at this market by applying for a form available on the council's website.
