Older Folk Set to Enjoy Best Ever Christmas Day Lunch

After generous donors ensure Spacehive fundraising campaign hits its target

250 older members of our community are set to have an extra-special Christmas Day celebration after generous local donors ensured a fundraising campaign on H&F Spacehive hit its target.

77 generous backers have raised the goal figure of £25,393, after an anonymous pledge of £5,000 two days ago.

Those running the campaign revealed the good news with this announcement on Spacehive:

Hammersmith & Fulham's Christmas Day lunch is an annual tradition, with people aged 60 and over who were not having lunch with anyone invited to join the festive cheer and meet new people.

This year's event is taking place at Hammersmith's Novotel London West, where staff are looking forward to welcoming everyone on the day.

Residents, H&F's Mayor, councillors & council staff will all be volunteering their time and pulling together to give the guests a memorable day.

On top of a traditional Christmas lunch, guests will enjoy a goody bag, live entertainment, music and dancing. Door-to-door transport, qualified carers and a team of volunteers will ensure all guests are well looked after.

H&F Council says a number of local businesses kindly donated to the event, thanking John Parnham Funfairs, which gave £4,000, Westfield London, Horton and Garton and Huckletree West for their donations.

"This is a fantastic event and a great way to give back to the community," said John Parnham, owner of John Parnham Funfairs. "We will continue to support this fabulous event which gives older residents who would otherwise be alone on Christmas Day a day to remember."

Some residents from local veterans’ housing charity, Stoll, attended last year’s Christmas lunch and are looking forward to returning.

" We would just like to thank all the wonderful people who came and collected our residents at Stoll Mansions at Fulham. They had the most amazing day and cannot wait for next year, thank you once again," said Tara Farrell, Stoll Independent Living Support Worker.

The council says it has had a fantastic response to its call for volunteers to help on the day and all volunteer posts are now filled. The event, like every year has also proved very popular with guests and the list is now full.

Applications for the 2020 event will open next October.
