Update of Council Services Affected by Snow

Council announcement

Schools
All state schools, other than Kenmont Primary, are closed today (Tuesday 3rd February) but given the improved weather conditions it is hoped that many schools will re-open tomorrow (Wednesday 4th, February). Some schools may be shut and others may have a delayed opening time. You are advised to check this website later today for a school by school update or phone the council helpline 020 8748 3020. School lunches and after school childcare will be provided as usual on Wednesday.

Dealing with snow and ice: roads
Gritters are continuing to focus on gritting the main roads and council staff have been redeployed again today to clear footpaths with shovels.

Dealing with snow and ice: rail
Many tube lines and Overground trains are still affected. You are advised to check with Transport for London before travelling. Click on TfL's live updates (opens new window) for real time information.

Rubbish and recycling
Many staff who are normally employed on refuse and recycling collections have been redeployed yesterday and today to grit roads and clear snow. It is hoped that, weather permitting, rubbish and recycling collections will restart tomorrow (Wednesday 4th, January). Residents who were due a collection on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday this week, should have their collection made, if the roads are passable. Residents who missed a collection yesterday or today will have their collection made up next week.

Parks
All of the borough’s parks are open.

Children’s Services
In Children's Services only confirmed appointments and new referrals will be dealt with. There are no transport services for special educational needs pupils or adult day centres.

Adults’ Services
Day Centres are closed because of the unsafe travel conditions. The council will continue to provide essential services for vulnerable elderly people.

Further information
All other council services are operating as normal, although some are working with fewer staff. We are doing everything we can and ask for your patience as we work to grit roads and footways and keep vital services running.
